Lesson #9: How can you determine which ad is the most successful?

Goals

Students will:
complete three versions of their ad and will select the most effective and best designed one as their finished project.
Materials
Three versions of the same ad for each pair of students
Resources
A rubric for reflection and evaluation
Demonstration:
Review the criteria for an effective ad by asking students what they are as the teacher lists them on the board.
The pairs of students will select their favorite ads from the three versions they have completed after discussing the impact of the design, art elements, and text. The finished ad will be printed and saved in a file.
Students will further reflect on their choices by filling out a rubric evaluating and reflecting on their work. Some questions which can be included are:
  • What were the criteria for a successful public service ad?
  • How would you evaluate your work based on these guidelines?
  • What was the hardest part of this project?
  • What was the most interesting thing you learned?
  • If you could change something about your ad, what would it be, and how would you change it?
